Tapestry

you were never good at p.e
basketball camp left you reeling
when you rocked up at 19
spoke to the masses
shared the feeling
you’ve lived all your nine lives
yarns enough for tapestry
give me a thread
and i’ll dance ahead
and weave into the story
you weren’t always there
waiting game
crowded bars, louder laughter
i’d see you in between
when the stingray had got you
after
you’d tried all your fine lines
nobody could take away
wrote a tome that turned you to stone
but freed you on the same day
listen to inner doubt
and you won’t get that far
better to go without
than take those cheap remarks
i’m not a remedy
don’t melt into that mould
embrace the symmetry
and origami folds
in the afterglow, from the haze
you emerge so bright, defiant
out the attic, left the cage
ladder’s gone but so’s the giant

Fields

Freight truck driver
sole survivor
crashed into the fields
4am-er
petrol tanker
charred with the unreal
Take a sip of coffee and a swig of day to day
chemical your body til the nagging goes away
take the corner faster on those winding country roads
scarlet ribbons licking
metal canisters explode
with your head
You don’t like anyone
messing with your head for fun
"Tell me how it feels...?"
Counselled trauma
digging for your former self
underneath the wheels
Capture family moments
dive like dragonflies
back beneath the iceberg
that betrays you with it’s size
feel your future greying
furniture stacked high
caring less each second
as sanity slips from sight
from sight...
Television news
night-time light hues
watching from the ward whiten
lilies, cellophane
card taped in place
anger makes your lungs tighten
Take a sip of coffee and a swig of day to day
chemical your body til the nagging goes away
take the corner faster
on those winding country roads
wishing you were taken
luck is bitter on your own
on your own
